Morristown freshman guard Nevaeh Sanders scored 13 points against Southwestern on Monday.

The Morristown girls’ basketball team earned a 38-32 conference road win over Southwestern on Monday.

The Yellow Jackets are now 9-7 overall and 2-1 in the Mid-Hoosier Conference. The Spartans dropped to 7-8 overall and 2-2 in the MHC.

Freshman guard Nevaeh Sanders and senior forward Gracie Laster led Morristown, both scoring 13 points in the win. Sanders finished 9 of 10 at the foul line while Laster nailed three 3-pointers in the first half. Also for the Yellow Jackets, junior guard Raegan Kleine added eight points.

As a team, Morristown finished 13-for-18 from the free throw line. Southwestern shot 7 of 23 from the charity stripe.

The Spartans were led by senior forward Alison Muck, who finished with 13 points. Senior forward Lily Kerber added seven points.

Kaliyah Brown

The Shelbyville gymnastics team opened its 2022 season at home Monday against Richmond. The Golden Bears were defeated in the team competition, 103.375-84.575.

Shelbyville’s Kaliyah Brown had a second-place finish on the vault with a score of 9.0. She finished third on the floor with a score of 8.5 and eventually placed third in the all-around with a score of 30.825.

Also for SHS, Faye-Lynn Voss finished fifth on the beam and floor and was fifth in the all-around. Renee Aldridge finished fourth in the all-around.

The Golden Bears will host Waldron on Thursday.
