The Waldron softball team dropped its sectional game Monday at the Edinburgh Sectional. The Mohawks fell to the host Lancers, 14-0.

Edinburgh scored five runs in the second inning and nine runs in the fourth to secure the win.

WHS, led by seniors Molly Benson, Morgan Hungerford, Airianna Collins, Amanda and Emily Brinson and Keira Zeigler, ended its season with a 10-12 record.

Weaver, Phelps receive academic honors

Shelbyville senior softball players Kaylie Phelps and Addi Weaver have been named to the ICGSA Academic All-State Team. Phelps has a 4.313 GPA and is ranked 14th in her class. Weaver has a 3.969 GPA and is ranked 51st in her class.

SHS shoots low team score

The Shelbyville boys’ golf team shot its best nine-hole score of the season, but lost to Mt. Vernon 162-167 on Monday.

Medalist for the match was Mt. Vernon’s Sam McWilliams with an even par 35. The Golden Bears were led by Ethan Apsley, who shot a 40.

Also for SHS, Matthew Bunton and Nolen Chaney both shot a 42 while DaMiles McDuffey finished with a 43.

The Golden Bears are back in action on June 2 when they host the Golden Bear Invitational at Blue Bear Golf Club.

Speed training at SHS

Shelbyville varsity track coach Nick Blakey will be conducting a Speed Development Camp open to incoming students in grades 7-12.

The camp will run from June 7 to July 21 on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30–7:30 p.m. at the SHS track. The cost will be $25 and all participants will receive a t-shirt. Registration information can be found at ShelbyvilleGoldenBears.com.
