The Shelbyville baseball team picked up an 11-9 win against East Central with a big sixth inning that gave the Golden Bears the lead.

The Shelbyville baseball team is off to an impressive start after picking up another win over the weekend.

The Golden Bears (2-0) defeated East Central, 11-9, after a big sixth inning gave them the lead.

East Central scored three runs in the top of the first but Shelbyville responded with two in the bottom half of the inning.

The Golden Bears put up five runs in the fourth and led 7-4 entering the sixth when the Trojans tied it up in the top half of the inning. Junior Brayden Basey, who got a base hit in all three at-bats, doubled to start the rally for the Golden Bears.

Shelbyville finished with 13 hits with seniors Nolan Kincade and Kaleb Schaf and juniors Charlie Rife and Caden Tackett each collecting two apiece. Seniors Brock Pitman and Tyler Smalley both had one hit.

Kincade and Smalley both drove in two runs apiece and Basey, Schaf, Rife, Tackett and senior Benny Thompson each drove in one.

East Central finished with 12 hits, led by senior Reid Cleary’s four.

Kincade and Smalley combined for 14 strikeouts on the mound while giving up those 12 hits. They also walked a combined five hitters.

Shelbyville hosts New Palestine at 5:30 p.m. today.
