Mohawks’ offense struggles in season openerWaldron fell to Rising Sun, 14-4, on Monday.

The Shiners took a 2-1 lead in the first inning, then added five runs in the second.

The Mohawks put together a rally in the top of the fifth, scoring three runs, but Rising Sun scored twice in the bottom half of the inning. The Shiners ended the game in the bottom of the sixth with five more runs.

Waldron finished with one hit and walked six times.

Rising Sun had 11 hits.

Softball

Yellow Jackets start slow in 8-6 lossDespite compiling 11 hits, Morristown was unable to overcome giving up five runs in the first inning and lost to Greenwood Christian, 8-6.

The Yellow Jackets responded in the bottom of the first with two runs but Greenwood Christian scored three in the third. Morristown added two more runs in the bottom of the third, making it 8-4.

Morristown added a run in both the sixth and seventh.

Delanie Cornn finished with a team-best three hits, driving in one run and scoring once.

Kristen Whitney had a double and scored three times, and Emma Wiggins had a single and scored twice. Hanna Eskew, Kayla Baier, Alyssa Whitaker and Madi Espich each had one hit.

Whitney struck out 10 while allowing eight hits and seven walks in seven innings pitched.
