The Morristown gymnastics team battled Roncalli and Martinsville Tuesday night in its season-opening meet. Roncalli (102.20) took first, Martinsville (92.175) was second and Morristown was third (80.525, only three competitors).
For Morristown, junior Oakleigh Goedde led her team with a fifth-place finish on Floor (8.075) and a sixth-place finish in the All-Around (30.225).
The Yellow Jackets are back in action Saturday at the Franklin Central Invitational.
Michael Fox, Juan Gonzalez-Gallego, Karissa Hamilton
The Shelbyville swim and dive teams competed against Pendleton Heights Tuesday. Both teams lost despite winning several events.
Individual event winners were Michael Fox (200 Free and 500 Free), Juan Gonzalez-Gallego (200 IM and 100 Butterfly) and Karissa Hamilton (50 Free and 100 Free).
Freshman Gaige Harker swam three career PR’s in his four swims. Season PR’s were posted by Hamilton (50 Butterfly), Jordan Tobler (200 Free), Miriam Garringer (500 Free) and Madison Monroe (100 Breaststroke).
The Golden Bears will host Mt. Vernon on Thursday.
Southwestern senior forward Lily Kerber scored a game-high 18 points Tuesday in a 53-28 home win over Indianapolis Lutheran. Kerber scored 12 of her points in the second half.
Also for the Spartans, senior forward Alison Muck finished with 12 points while junior guard McKinley Correll added seven points.
SW is now 8-8. The Spartans play again Thursday at North Decatur in Mid-Hoosier Conference action.
Morristown freshman forward Danika Rutledge had a double-double Tuesday in a 41-35 home loss to North Decatur.
She finished the game with 10 points, 11 rebounds, four steals and three blocks.
Also for the Yellow Jackets, junior guard Raegan Kleine and junior forward Maggie Lutes both scored nine points. Kleine totaled six rebounds, four assists and three steals while Lutes grabbed five rebounds.
Morristown is 9-8 overall and 2-2 in the MHC. The Yellow Jackets return to action Jan. 18 at Greenwood Christian. The team’s contest against Edinburgh on Saturday has been postponed. The make up date is Jan. 28 (home).
Shelbyville sophomore guard Ellie Simpson scored a career-high nine points Tuesday in a 51-44 home loss to Rushville. Simpson finished the game with three 3-pointers.
SHS junior guard Kylee Edwards scored a team-high 15 points in the loss. Senior forward Madison Phares added seven points.
The Golden Bears are 8-10 overall. SHS plays again Saturday at home against Mt. Vernon in Hoosier Heritage Conference action.
Triton Central sophomore forward Brooklyn Bailey came off the bench to score a team-high 14 points Tuesday in a 54-44 road loss to New Palestine.
Also for Class 2A No. 7 TC, junior guard Maddy Brown scored 12 points.
Triton Central is 15-4 overall. The Tigers play again Jan. 18 at Covenant Christian.
