Shelbyville senior forward Madison Bassett scored 13 points Friday against Southwestern. 

Shelbyville improved to 4-2 Friday with a 49-29 win over Southwestern. Jason West, who is now coaching the Spartans, made his return to SHS. West was the head coach of the Golden Bears from 2015-19. 

Shelbyville limited Southwestern to four points in the third quarter after leading 25-20 at halftime. The Golden Bears finished the game 15-for-19 from the free throw line. 

Junior guard Kylee Edwards led SHS with 17 points. Senior forward Madison Bassett scored 10 of her 13 points in the first quarter. Bassett hit three 3-pointers in the opening period, which helped the Golden Bears grab a 14-12 advantage after one. 

Sophomore wing Ava Wilson added 12 points for Shelbyville. 

The Spartans (2-3) were led by junior guard Lilly Rooks, who finished with eight points. Senior forwards Lily Kerber and Kennedy Pile both added six points. 

Shelbyville plays again Saturday at home against Pendleton Heights (HHC opener). Southwestern hosts Class A No. 3 Trinity Lutheran Saturday.
